Passing Through The Storm

By: Rita Nichols

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there as a great calm.” Mark 4:39

Like the disciples, I have been frightened in the midst of a storm in life. I would like to say that I had the faith to move mountains, but I did not.

In a storm, my eyes tend to look at the turbulence around me and not on the Saviour. I try to devise my own plan of survival which increases my own anxiety. Finally, after an emotional battle, I call upon the Lord. I ask Him to calm the storm in my heart. I have claimed Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep Him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee.” Each time that God brings me through the storm I think, “Next time I will trust the Lord more.” The truth is that I have this battle each time. I often feel like Peter in my faith. I have the faith to get out of the boat and take a step or two on the water, but then I take my eyes off the Lord and begin to sink.

I can say that even in my lack of faith and feebleness God has always been faithful to meet my needs.

Perhaps you are in a storm today. Do not let fear and doubt make you forget what the Lord has done for you in the past! I am not sure who said it, but remember this quote: “Don’t forget in the night what the Lord gave in the daylight.” In Matthew 21:22, Jesus says that if we ask anything in prayer believing He will answer it. Claim Philippians 4:19. God will supply all our needs. He has promised never to leave or forsake us.
