Signs You’re Falling In Love

By: Bethany Riley

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and will all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.  Matthew 22: 37-38

Have you ever been in love? I sincerely hope all of you married women are saying “yes” right now! There’s a big difference between being in a relationship with someone and being in love with someone. Hopefully, you are in love with the person you are in a relationship with, but sadly, that’s not always the case. Everyone can tell the difference; they know by the actions of the people involved. We can be in relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ (the majority of the readers probably are), but are we completely and totally in love with the Lord Jesus Christ? I know that I am His and He is mine, but is He all that my heart desires? Here are a few signs you're falling in love.

1. You think about Him day and night. In fact, you can’t stop thinking about Him. - Psalms 5:3 - What is your meditation? How often does the Lord cross your mind throughout the day?

- Psalms 104:34 - Do you find yourself smiling to yourself when you think about Him or thanking Him for what He’s done for you?

2. Your whole purpose in life is trying to see Him. All you want to do is be near Him. - James

4:8 - the only way to get near a holy God is to cleanse and purify yourself, but when you are “in love” with the Lord, it’s so much easier to get things out of your life.

- Psalms 42:1-2

- Psalms 16:11 - in His presence is fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore! - John 15:7-11 - We should be actively abiding in Him. “Abide” means “Continue; dwell; endure; be present; remain; stand; tarry for.”

- Moses knew the importance of God’s presence in Exodus 33:13-15.

- Psalms 119:10 - Am I seeking Him with my whole heart?

3. You get the “fuzzy feeling”.

- Song of Solomon 2 & 4 - This is the “cheesy”, but good stuff, the “butterflies” in your stomach,” you might say, the emotions that come with being “in love.”

4. You like what they like.

- Psalms 119: 24, 97, 103 - His Word

- Ephesians 5:25, I Corinthians 12:23-27 - His church

- John 13:1, 34-35 - His people

5. You do things to get their attention and want to please them. You may even start looking like them.

- Psalms 19:14, II Corinthians 5:14, Romans 12:1-2, Deuteronomy 30:16, 20 - Is your desire to please God or to please your own flesh, friends, and family? -

6. You talk about Him ALLLL the time.

- Psalms 34:1-3, Psalms 146:1-2 - You can always tell when someone is developing a crush if you just listen to their conversations, right? Somebody's name will keep popping up. Does the Lord’s name dominate our conversations? Do I talk about Him and what He’s done for me?

Oh wow, I’ve been under conviction with this thought for awhile. I know my love life needs a lot of work. I think of the verse from “Come Thou Fount”.

O to grace how great a debtor

Daily I’m constrained to be!

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,

Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,

Prone to leave the God I love;

Here’s my heart; O take and seal it;

Seal it for Thy courts above.

My prayer recently has been Psalms 73:25, “Whom have I in Heaven but thee? And there is none that I desire beside thee.”
